Red Cross Draws Ire for Disaster Fundraising Effort in Iowa
The Hawkeye Chapter of the American Red Cross has reignited concerns about disaster relief fundraising practices by continuing to raise funds in a stricken area of Iowa after meeting and exceeding its stated goal, the New York Times reports. Further complicating the issue, one resident of the damaged area is ranking Senate Finance Committee member Charles E. Grassley (R-IA).

“Iron Ladies of Liberia” A documentary following the women that helped to rebuild Africa.
In 2006, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was the first woman ever elected head of state in Africa and she was left with the task to fix a country where almost everything was broken. Liberia had endured vicious recent civil wars that saw unspeakable atrocities. In approaching this momentous challenge, she put together a remarkable team of women.
But the looming question that hovered over them while they tried to achieve progress: how quickly can they improve their lives when the country faces a crushing debt of almost four billion dollars?
In anticipation of the visit by Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, to the New York Society for Ethical Culture on June 4th, the Public Issues Committee held a viewing of the documentary, Iron Ladies of Liberia.
The discussion that followed was led by Dr. Thelma Awori, President of the African Market Women’s Fund. Our own Dr. Phyllis Harrison-Ross, Chair of the SSB, presided.

Dr. Michael Pratts, BPA secretary, BPGNY member and Friend of AHMHA is conducting some research on PTSD and has asked us to identify some patients for the study. I believe that the patients will be paid to participate. Please review the letter below and let me know if your practice is able to help him with this study. I know that we will be able to help with interpretation and utilization of the data. Dr. Phyllis Harrison-Ross is on their advisory board (in an effective manner). More information . . .
